Your coach never stands on the pool deck. Here's why it still works.
It's the fair question to ask before you pay anyone: if nobody is watching me train, what exactly am I buying? This is the honest answer.
What a week actually looks like
- Your week lands in TrainingPeaks — every session written for you, not pulled off a shelf.
- You train. Your watch uploads. Nothing else is required of you.
- Every session is analysed overnight — heart rate, power, pace, zones, decoupling, cadence.
- Your coach reads that summary in the morning, together with anything you've written, and adjusts what's coming.
- You write whenever something matters: a bad night, a sore achilles, a work trip. That's not "support" — it's the coaching.
AI counts. The coach decides.
Our own AI layer sits on top of TrainingPeaks. It reads every session you upload, tracks your fitness, fatigue and freshness day by day, and flags the things a human would need hours to spot — that your decoupling has been climbing for a third straight week, say, or that your efficiency is drifting the wrong way.
What it never does:
- It doesn't write your plan. A coach does.
- It doesn't hear that you slept badly, that work is brutal, or that you're quietly scared of the swim start.
- It doesn't feel when to push you and when to back off.
- It doesn't carry responsibility for your race. We do.
The point isn't a clever algorithm. It's that the number-crunching stops eating your coach's evening, so the time goes into talking to you instead.
Why unlimited messaging beats a monthly call
Training questions don't arrive on schedule. They arrive at 05:10, in kit, staring at a session you're not sure you should start. A coach you can reach in that moment changes the session. A coach you'll speak to three weeks from now changes nothing.
That's why unlimited communication is on both our plans rather than being the thing you upgrade for.
What we're actually building
A coach's job isn't one result at any cost. It's a training habit that survives years — without injury and without burning out. The finishes come as a by-product of getting that right.
So we don't hand you instructions to follow blindly. A body is far too complicated to program. We explain why each session is built the way it is, so you learn to read your own response and adjust it. The goal is the day you say, "I know how to train myself" — after which your coach becomes a mentor and a training partner rather than a source of orders.
If that sounds soft, look at how the Norwegians train. Blummenfelt, Iden and Stornes weren't handed sessions to execute; they were taught to understand the process. The results speak for the method.
What online coaching can't do — honestly
We can't put a hand on your hip mid-stroke. For technique we work from video, which is slower than a coach on the deck and better than nothing — you can rewatch it, and so can we.
What decides amateur races, though, is rarely a perfect catch. It's consistency, load that matches your life, and pacing that doesn't blow up at 30 km. All three are visible in your data, every single day.
